Student accommodation and costing

Your new home at Royal Holloway International Study Centre

Living and studying with other students will help you make friends more easily and become independent. Sharing your daily life with other students is part of the great student experience you can have at Royal Holloway International Study Centre.

We offer a variety of housing options to suit your needs. You can choose from University-managed or private accommodation. We recommend arranging your place to live before you arrive in the UK.

Living in University halls

University halls is where friendships are made. You will be able to choose from a range of halls accommodation on and off-campus.

In both, you will benefit from the support of our residential staff who are here to look after you. You can also choose between catered or self-catered accommodation:

  • Catered halls: Enjoy freshly-prepared meals from the dining hall, snacks and drinks from the fridge and microwave in every hall.
  • Self-catered halls: Cook for yourself and share a kitchen with other students while making friends.

Catering options

We offer different accommodation options to suit all students. Some options are catered, which means your meals are provided at a discounted cost in the halls canteen, and others are self-catered, meaning you cook for yourself. You should consider this when submitting your accommodation preferences when you apply for your student halls.

If you choose to live in a catered hall you can enjoy a choice of delicious international food in the halls canteen. The menu changes every week, and you can see it in advance online.

If you choose a self-catered hall you’ll have access to the halls kitchen and will be given information and resources on nutrition and cooking during the induction week.

Every hall also has a fridge and microwave for snacks and drinks.

Act early if you can

Our accommodation is now available to book. Act fast to increase your chances of priority room allocation.

Booking your accommodation

It’s important to arrange your accommodation before arriving in the UK. This helps ensure a smooth immigration and registration process, and gives you peace of mind knowing where you’ll stay.

If you are under 18, you must arrange accommodation through the Centre. Certain accommodation types may be reserved specifically for under-18s.

You’ll receive an invitation to apply for accommodation once you confirm your place. If you request accommodation during your application, the Central Student Support team will provide up-to-date details on available options, fees, and next steps.

We recommend applying as early as possible. While accommodation is still available, it is allocated on a first come, first served basis. Applying early increases your chances of securing your preferred room type.

Accommodation Commitment for September 2025

To provide assurance of accommodation availability, we have introduced an Accommodation Commitment so students can feel confident about securing a room.

To receive a room offer, follow these simple steps:

Submit your Acceptance Form and make any required payments by 25 July 2025 (5pm UK time).

Use the instructions from your Centre or College to apply by 4 August 2025 (5pm UK time).

Once you receive a room offer, complete the application process within the given deadlines to confirm your booking.

Important Information:

  • The Accommodation Commitment applies to courses starting in September and October 2025 only.
  • Rooms are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
  • Some students may be prioritised, including those under 18 or with specific medical needs. Certain accommodation types may be reserved for under-18s.
  • Students do not need their CAS or study visa to be part of the accommodation commitment or to start the booking process.

Arrange your room

If you have any queries regarding accommodation availability and accommodation options, you can contact the RHUL ISC Central Student Support Team who are available for any help or advice you may need.

Look out for fraud

Scammers may specifically target international students so it is important to be able to recognise common signs of fraudulent activity and know what to do if you come across it. Let us know at fraudreporting@studygroup.com if you have any concerns about fraudulent activity when dealing with a private accommodation provider so that we can help to protect you and other international students in case they are targeted in the same way.

Arranging your own private accommodation

If you prefer to arrange your own accommodation, there are private rooms, flats, and houses available in and around Egham. You have two options:

Amber

  • Amber is a leading student accommodation provider offering a range of options. If you choose this route, our Central Student Support team will give you a bespoke link to Amber’s Portal. Their team will guide you through the booking process and assist with any queries.

Arrange independently

  • You may also arrange accommodation on your own. If you do, please inform us of your address and ensure it is within a 60-minute door-to-door commute of Royal Holloway International Study Centre.

Please also refer to our 'Look out for fraud' section, which highlights the potential risks of booking accommodation privately.
